Please realize that, although there appear to be many listings for spay/neuter assistance, there is still a great need for accessible and affordable (free or very low-cost) spay/neuter. Many of the listed resources have waiting lists and are inundated with requests; many areas do not have lower-cost spay/neuter available. Publicly funded spay/neuter is needed, the existing resources are not adequate to make a significant impact on the problem.

Please remember -- neuter or spay assistance is for people in financial need or for animals who would not otherwise be sterilized. It is provided as a community service to help people as well as improve and save animal lives.

Although each spay/neuter counts, spay/neuter programs of most impact are targeted, accessible, high-volume, free or truly low-cost, AND proactive! Effective programs reach at-risk animals that would not otherwise get sterilized. Only a few programs approach or meet this criteria. If planning a spay/neuter project, please assess community needs, review and advise existing programs so that efforts are not duplicated.
